Jacob M. Sims Blackhawk Pilot - October 28, 2017

“Chief Warrant Officer Jacob M. Sims, 36, of Juneau, Alaska, died Oct. 27 in Logar Province, Afghanistan, as a result of wounds sustained when he was involved in a helicopter crash. He was assigned to 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington,” the Department of Defense said in a statement. –  Washington Examiner He was 36 years old and from Juneau, Alaska. Sims was apart of Operation Freedom's Sentinel and stationed in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Enemy fire was not involved and six others were injured in the incident. He joined the army in August 1999 and was assigned to Fort Bragg, NC. Initially a combat engineer, Sims was later assigned as a UH60 Blackhawk Helicopter pilot in Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Sgt. 1st Class Stephen B. Cribben - Nov 4, 2017

Sgt. 1st Class Stephen B. Cribben of Simi Valley, California was 33 and died of combat injuries in Logar province. Cribben was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group in Fort Carson, Colorado. Cribbens joined the army on November 20, 2002 and hailed from Rawlins, Wyoming. He was stationed in Asia, Europe, and the United States and deployed to Egypt, Afghanistan, and Iraq. His medals include The Army commendation Medal, Bronze Star, Combat Action Badge, Special Forces Tab, Air Assault Badge, Path Finder Badge, and Parachutist Badge. He was a Green Beret with fifteen years of experience. "I keep saying this and I truly believe it. His heart was bigger than the nation he served and loved and protected," Leslie Cribben said. "He has both the compassionate side and the loving side and he's got the warrior side. I was amazed that he could meld those two," his father said. Army Sgt. 1st Class Hughton O. Brown - Nov 14, Operation Freedom's Sentinel

Houghton, 43, joined the army in August 1997, deployed to Iraq in 2011, and to Kuwait this year. Brown was assigned to the Army Reserve at the 306th Engineer Company in Farmingdale, New York as a maintenance supervisor. He passed at Camp Buehring and has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Badge. Brown was born in Jamaica and collapsed during a two mile jog with colleagues. “A role model and a mentor for many soldiers, even for those not in his beloved maintenance team, he was sought out for his wisdom and knowledge,” said Capt.
